A 41-year-old man accused of fatally striking a pedestrian in Little Havana early Friday has been granted a $15,000 bond, Miami officials say.
According to authorities, the crash occurred just before 6:30 a.m. on Northwest 7th Street near Northwest 24th Avenue. The driver, Fernando Abraham De los Rios, allegedly hit a man in his 60s who was crossing the road and fled the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators linked De los Rios to the crash when they found a fog lamp bezel at the scene matching a black 2018 Dodge Durango. About 30 to 45 minutes later, police located a heavily damaged Dodge Durango nearby. De los Rios confessed to the crash, telling officers, “The victim was crossing the road, it was dark, and he panicked.”
He was booked on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. At his bond hearing on Saturday, a judge set bail at $15,000.
