Snoop Dogg says he was unsettled by LGBTQ+ themes in children’s films, recalling a recent experience with his grandson that left him “scared to go to the movies.”
The 53-year-old rapper, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., shared his views during a recent episode of the It’s Giving podcast. He said he was surprised while watching Pixar’s 2022 film Lightyear, which includes a storyline involving a same-sex couple raising a child.
“What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere,” Snoop said. He recalled how his grandson reacted to the film, asking, “‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”
Snoop said the question caught him off guard. “‘Oh sh–, I didn’t come in for this sh–. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,’” he remembered thinking. “It f—– me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of sh– that I don’t have an answer for.”
He continued, “It threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’”

The “Gin and Juice” rapper and The Voice coach argued that children are too young to grapple with such themes. “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer,” he said.
Lightyear, a spin-off of Pixar’s Toy Story franchise, tells the backstory of Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Chris Evans. The film includes a montage of Buzz’s best friend, Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba), marrying her partner, Kiko, and raising a child. The film also features Disney’s first same-sex kiss, which was initially cut but later reinstated after Pixar employees objected.
Snoop’s remarks have reignited criticism over his past comments about the LGBTQ+ community, including once calling Caitlyn Jenner a “science project” and using an anti-gay slur in a 2014 Instagram post. His latest comments have prompted calls for the Australian Football League to reconsider him as the headline act for its upcoming Grand Final.
