A Northwest Miami-Dade man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he attacked his brother with a machete during a dispute over a set of keys.
According to a Miami-Dade police arrest report, the confrontation involving Jeremiah Joseph Lissade, 30, occurred on May 12, 2024, at a home the brothers once shared.
Investigators said the victim received a text message from Lissade that day telling him to come to the house, collect his belongings and meet him at the front door. When the victim arrived, he found Lissade standing outside and “holding a machete,” the report says.
The two argued as the victim approached with items in his hands. Police said Lissade shoved his brother and then placed the blade against his sibling’s face and neck, demanding he hand over the keys.
The victim managed to move his belongings back inside the home, but when he walked out to his car to retrieve a flower vase, Lissade allegedly followed him and tried to take it. A struggle broke out, and Lissade is accused of raising the machete and swinging it “violently,” injuring his brother’s hands and right leg, according to the report.
A cousin inside the home heard a loud noise and checked surveillance footage, which showed Lissade standing over his brother while he was on the ground, investigators said. The cousin went outside with a firearm, ordered the victim inside and pointed the weapon at Lissade to keep him back.
The victim was treated by the brothers’ grandfather before being taken to a hospital. Police said he sustained deep cuts to both hands requiring emergency surgery, nerve damage, broken bones in his right hand, ruptured blood vessels in his left hand and additional lacerations on his right leg.
Lissade was arrested on Wednesday at about 12:24 p.m. He acknowledged arguing with his brother over the keys but denied attacking him, according to police. His occupation is listed in the report as “TSA.”
He was initially booked on charges including attempted felony murder with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic violence battery, and resisting an officer without violence.
On Friday, Judge Mindy Glazer ruled there was no probable cause for the attempted murder charge. A request from prosecutors for pretrial detention was denied, and Lissade’s bond was set at $7,500.
It remains unclear why an arrest wasn’t made earlier.
