A Mexican man who has been deported five times faces federal charges after authorities found more than 50,000 fentanyl pills hidden in a child’s toy in South Florida, officials said.
Guillermo Higuera German, 37, made his initial appearance in federal court on Nov. 17 following an investigation by the DEA and Fort Lauderdale Police, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida said Monday.
Prosecutors said officers searched a vehicle driven by Higuera German after a K-9 alerted them to narcotics. They discovered several boxes and a Sesame Street-style bus toy containing the fentanyl, weighing about five kilograms.
Authorities also determined Higuera German was in the U.S. illegally and had been deported five times. He is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Border and Immigration Crimes Enforcement Section and will face removal from the country after the case concludes.
