The city of Doral has approved a resolution to rename part of Northwest 92nd Avenue in honor of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
City council members voted Thursday to designate the stretch of Northwest 92nd Avenue between Northwest 33rd Street and Northwest 25th Street as “Maria Corina Machado Way.”
The measure was introduced by Councilman Rafael Piñeyro and received unanimous support from the entire Doral City Council.
The vote came as Machado was in Washington, D.C., where she drew significant media attention on Capitol Hill following meetings with U.S. lawmakers and President Donald Trump.
Speaking to reporters and supporters outside the Capitol, Machado said she met with Trump at the White House and described the meeting as positive. She also said she met with several U.S. senators, calling those discussions “a great meeting.”
Machado added that during her meeting with Trump, she presented him with the Nobel Peace Prize she said she won last year, a remark that quickly drew attention among reporters covering her visit.
