Former Hialeah City Council member Bryan Calvo was the projected winner of Tuesday’s mayoral race, defeating four other candidates in one of the city’s most closely watched local elections.
With 44 of 45 precincts reporting, Calvo held a decisive lead over interim Mayor Jacqueline García-Roves and City Council member Jesus Tundidor, according to unofficial results.
“This victory belongs to every family that’s worked hard, played by the rules, and refused to give up on this city,” Calvo said in a statement Tuesday night. “Hialeah chose transparency over corruption, results over rhetoric, and community over cronyism. We ran on honesty, hard work, and fairness — values my late father taught me, and the very values of Hialeah residents. Tonight, those values prevailed.”
Calvo, who previously served on the City Council in 2021, became the youngest person ever elected to that position. He later ran for Miami-Dade tax collector in 2024 but was unsuccessful.
A graduate of Florida International University’s College of Law, Calvo also studied at Harvard University.
“Starting tomorrow, the focus is on governing, fixing water rates, easing the cost of living, and rebuilding trust,” Calvo said. “The people of Hialeah deserve nothing less.”
Tuesday’s election also included four Hialeah City Council races, with results still being finalized.
